Get Sh*t Done - Talk Three
“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” - Elie Wiesel
On my Twitch channel, I have had featured talks comprising of “real talks” on important issues. The third talk was about how to put your anger and frustration into long-term activism on issues. This was a pretty important and hard one to discuss given the climate on June 5, 2020 - but an absolutely necessary one. There are protests happening on the regular now in most major cities. The past month has been the response from the reopened wound that does not appear to be closing anytime soon - nor should it.
Included in this talk are the following topics & resources:
Understanding what you can do with your time, money, and voice
Tools you can use to help organize yourself and others
Action is needed – not just talk
Included in this are items we discussed on June 5, 2020
Black Lives Matter Resources
National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
Vote by Mail Advocacy – Protection & Expansion
Criminal and Prison Justice Reform
Motivation to keep fighting
Content Warnings and Topical Conversations from the beginning of June concerning Black Lives Matter are included in this VOD. Please be advised that discussions of sexual harassment, police brutality, and racism are included in this discussion. Not all of the after slide talks are included in the highlight.
You can view the VOD (Video on Demand) below and also view the associated PowerPoint slide here.
ADDITIONALLY - I created an activism packet for every interested person to make a copy of and fill out themselves. It pushes being registered to vote, finding out who your representatives are, questions to ask yourself to prepare for calling your representative’s office on an issue, and making a commitment to VOTE. You can share this tweet and/or download your copy of the sheet here.
All of these resources are free, I would appreciate sending any support in terms of credit or follows to my social channels. Please do not copy or re-purpose any of the content prepared without my permission first (I would be happy to give it, just give me a heads up please).
If you additionally have any questions you would like answered, feel free to ask on my socials or email me! I am happy to make more ready-to-use resources concerning this vein of action - or compile some FAQs. There are no stupid questions - as a government and campaign staffer veteran, I am happy to answer them!
The Mission of the Get Shit Done Talks - To explore hard conversations, break taboos in support of self-empowerment, and create an open rapport between ourselves and the institutions we interact with on a daily basis. To ensure there is an understanding of the tools, guidance, and resources available for self-improvement. To encourage learning about topics that affect our daily decisions and lives. To lift one another up with conversation and growth.
