The Last of Us Lore Has Been Breached, Finally
We’re starting another acclaimed game series - The Last of Us.
I had an amazing time with Mass Effect Legendary Edition and it was absolutely, hands-down one of the best gaming experiences I could have ever asked for. There is a plan to recircle back to Mass Effect: Andromeda for more ME goodness in the future, yet a difference in setting was needed for the next game. And I think TLOU is a perfect choice.
And frankly, I’m also running out of patience holding out on watching the show since everyone I know has loved it.
Surprisingly, I am not as foreign to survival horror as a game type. I was completely immersed in State of Decay 2 when it came out - playing for hours and hours with the community. I have played through Resident Evil 1 (Chris and Jill), 2 (Claire), and the 3 Remake. And dabbled in several survival games like Dead by Daylight, 7 Days to Die, The Forest, and Subsistence.
Zombies have always been a favorite medium of horror and stories about the dark side of humanity. One of my best college essays was a deep dive into the Night of the Living Dead and a few other Romero works through the lens of sociology - a fun discussion about humanity’s evolution when the aspects of instituted societal norms and learned etiquettes are completely overturned for a new order.
Here’s the whole playlist if you want to hop into the series.
These are just a few highlights and impressions from my playthrough.
The lore you pick up through notes and letters, and how you are rewarded with conversations for searching more in locations is so, so cool! I was absolutely delighted to have that experience and that system made it a lot less daunting to not do stealth as completely as the game allows.
This game is ABSOLUTELY beautiful - playing the remastered version on PC was great, even with a few crashes. Nothing lost my progress and some of the freezes were funny.
The characters make you care very quickly which is sometimes hard for me to grasp even with good storytelling. Other than a few weird conversation switches (namely Tommy and Joel about Ellie) - it was a wonderful story with stellar voice acting and character work.
At this point I have not finished the game, so we shall see what is in store and how long I can hold off from playing Part II!
Being able to balance YouTube with my burnout has been a great way to feel connected while balancing my recovery and still sourcing and sharing joy.
I want to share some of my favorites with you all too, along with playing in-demand, storied games that have received accolades from critics and the community. It only feels fair that I also take some time to share my favorites along with your suggestions. Here’s to hoping I can keep on this journey and thank you again for the opportunity to keep sharing these experiences with you all. <3
